Duke it Out

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Gunner and his friend Elvis stopped by and had a mini battle over a piece of Yak Crack. Elvis started out strong – his size gave him an advantage over the tenacious Frenchie:

Gunner didn’t let the Bantamweight vs. Heavyweight discrepancy deter him. Elvis tried to bob and weave:

But once Gunner had a grip on the prize there was no stopping him:

Gunner says, “Bet on the little guy every time!”

Puppy Central

I love puppy socialization class.

Puppy1

I try to answer questions during class, and hold semi-intelligent conversations with the people, but I invariably trail off and stare at the pups with my mouth hanging open. The cuteness! That said, there is a ref aspect to my role at class. Play can tip to tussle in an instant, especially as the session wears on, so I need to be ready to step in.

The attitudes in this class run the gamut from Harrison’s “I’m king of the world!” perspective …

… to Zoe’s “What fresh hell is this?”

Young Duncan was slightly more outgoing at our second class … he opted to stand on the ground (instead of in his person’s lap), and allowed sweet Holly to check him out:

I love this interlude between Stormy and Morgan … Stormy’s goofiness didn’t impress Morgan at all.

Our final session is this Saturday. Perhaps Duncan and Zoe will join the fray next time?

Dogs in Toyland

My friend Oakley is shy (tall scary men, please stay away), but she’s not shy when it comes to enjoying the treat-stuffable floor models at LOTL.

She started with one (another at the ready behind her paw):

Then worked her way through the rest of ‘em:

Wet Paint

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

The Friends of the Doylestown Dog Park held a super-fun fundraiser over the weekend; Paintin’ Paws.
Paint n’ Pottery hosted us, and we had quite a few dogs show up to have their paws turned into works of art on beautiful hand painted tiles. (Paw painted tiles?)

I was in charge of the “put paint on the paw and press it to the tile” station. It was tougher than you’d think! Most of the dogs rolled with it, but a few acted as if they were at the vet office. (”Gah! My paw! What’s happening?!”)

This guy’s paw nearly dwarfed the tile:

It was a very fun morning for a very worthy cause. Doylestown doesn’t have a dog park, and a group of dedicated volunteers are working to raise funds to build one. It’s going to take time and a lot of money … so … any corporate sponsors out there – call us! We’d be willing to take our dogs to “Your Name Here Dog Park”!

Show Me the Food

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Jake came by for a visit and immediately started on a treat hunt.

“These are bowls, so there must be some food in here somewhere.”
Food1

“I KNOW that these are bags of treats … which one is open?”
Food2

“Chicken, whitefish, lamb. What am I in the mood for today?
Food3

“I like to eat. Sue me.”
