We raffled off the opportunity to have a custom dog portrait done by local artist Sharon Mattson. She created a beautiful portrait of Jake:

Who just happened to be in attendance:

Sharon worked on a familiar face during the party:

My Zeke. The only reason I didn’t cry when I saw it was because I was in full-on hostess mode. Yes, I wore a costume; I was the black cat in the dog store.

Thanks to all who came – hope you had as much fun as I did!

Didja see the maintenance page up all week? The new LOTL web site is almost done …

In the meantime check out Oppa the 10-week old St. Bernard puppy:

I’m guessing that he doesn’t know about the Eagles bandanna around this neck.

Chester’s 15 Minutes

Friday, October 16th, 2009

There’s a certain free magazine in town that highlights a “dog of the month” in each issue. The editor has promised my friend and regular shopper Chester that honor for ages, but it has yet to happen.

Chester demands to know why.

Chester1

Is he not cute enough? Not “D’town-y” enough?

Chester2

He knows he’s worthy … come on, Dave, hook a dog up already!

(FYI, the new and improved store-focused Life on the Leash will be launching shortly, so don’t be surprised if you visit the blog and see a “coming soon” banner. The main pages will look different, but the LOTL blog will be same as it evah was.)

Get the Led Out

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Zeppelin joined us for our second puppy class a few weeks ago. He was overwhelmed by the brawling, and opted to watch the furry melee from his person’s lap. He was a shy little guy.

He came back to visit yesterday a changed dog. Zeppelin walked through the store like he owned it! Sure, the squeaky toys freaked him out a bit, but he recovered quickly. He investigated the cozy beds and selected the one that best suited his gray-blue coat:

Suiting Up

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

The Howl-o-ween costuming going on in the store makes me laugh until tears come to my eyes. But I’m laughing with the dogs, not at them.

Some dogs aren’t in love with wearing stuff:

But others, like Chelsea in her cat costume, don’t seem to mind at all:

Suiting2

Perhaps Chelsea is s hoping for a spot on Conan’s show?
