Technical Difficulties

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

No, I’m not on an extended vacation … unfortunately, I’ve been having major issues uploading new photos. Old photos? No problem, but who wants old photos when I’ve got celebratory New Years shots of Sumner on deck? Oh, and perhaps you’ve noticed the screwy fonts, unclickable photo links and general untidiness?

Time for some housekeeping.

Fingers crossed we’ll be good to go soon … until then, gaze upon on this adorableness:

Tragedy or Comedy?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

We were treated to a gladiator-style spectacle on Christmas morning.

The players?

Eight interloper mice that chewed their way into the chicken feed container:

And one mighty hunter:

When my Dad tipped over the container to get the mice out, was the result tragedy or comedy?

Depends on whom you ask.

‘Tis the Season

You knew it was coming:

It’s Santa’s grumpy reindeer!

Though Sum is a patient, giving model, he does have his limits. He’s not a big fan of the antlers:

I pay him well to make it worth his time … for this shoot he got bits of poached chicken after every flash. (My poor camera is coated in a thin film of dog slobber and chicken grease.)

At the end I let him lick the plate:

All better!

Sum has a special message for you …

“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Good Dog!”

The Good Old Days?

Let’s get old timey:

Winnie’s person let me borrow this dog training book from 1943 and wow is it nuts. Some of it is still relevant, like the first two new puppy owner questions below… but take a look at the third one:

“Spring tonic?” Huh?

I like this gem:

Minus the convulsion part, this “fit” just sounds like typical puppy behavior. I usually call it the “5:00 Dash” because most pups do it in the late afternoon. Mr. Becker makes it sound ominous.

Ugliest. Pomeranian. Ever.

Seriously – isn’t this a puppy book? The dog looks like it’s a thousand years old!

I picture someone with an old gangster movie accent (”Yeah, see, sock ‘em Bugsy!”) using the following English Bulldog nickname:

The word choice on this caption makes me nervous:

I love this one:

What amazes me is that some of Mr. Becker’s advice is dead-on, but then he bookends it with really crappy stuff and ruins it (granted, it was a different era):

Yes to the praise, NO to the scolding! (I agree with him about the whipping, of course.)

This is wrong on so many levels:

I was shocked to discover how timeless the advice was in a few sections. These two passages could have come right out of my book:

Well said, Mr. Becker!

Let’s end with some cuteness. Boston Terriers, represent!

Hello, Gorgeous.

Winston’s back!

With action shots!

That’s him rocking the recall in his back yard. Nice!

Don’t get too comfortable there, Winston. I’m still going to steal you.

Name that Breed

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Hooray – another unusual breed!

Does anyone know what my new client Ceilie (pronounced “Kaylee”) is?

Some hints: she’s 6 months old and still has a lot of growing to do, she has both a “proper” breed name and a casual name, and one of her kind was in a popular movie back in the 80s.

Isn’t she adorable?

Mais ouis!

So what is Ceili?
