Have you seen this ad?
In case you can’t decipher it (hello, we don’t have a scanner in this house and I had to take a photo of it), it’s a MasterCard “priceless” ad with a shot of a puppy sitting in a room carpeted with newspaper.
I hate this ad. Hate it.
Anyone venture to guess why I hate it?

I haven’t seen it, but I would guess it’s the idea that with the newspapers’ cost per month being such a bargain, it’s easier to order those on your MC than housetrain your puppy. It also gives people the idea that you can leave your puppy in a huge room all day alone with the run of the house. I think the puppy looks sad too, but I realize it’s an actor puppy. But still, they posed him like he’s sitting in his own pee.
It’s no coincidence that they chose a Basset Hound puppy. They corner the market on the whole sad-eyes thing.
But, as the author of a housetraining book, I suspect you and I could both have a field day skewering this one.
